Jamie Carragher Doubtful about Liverpool’s Top Four Finish after Palace Defeat

Jamie Carragher has admitted that Liverpool face a big fight in order to finish in the top four after a 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

It was yet another defeat to a team from the bottom of the table. The result leaves the club just three points above Manchester United, who have two games in hand. Theoretically, United will be able to disperse as Liverpool from the top four with a win in these two matches. Liverpool appeared to have the easiest run in of all the top six teams on paper. However, they have lost a number of points against teams from the bottom end of the table and the result against Crystal Palace was another example of the same.

Former Red Christian Benteke came back to haunt the club by scoring the winner. While Carragher remains confident that the club will be able to secure a spot in the Champions League next season, he says that the task has been made much more difficult.

Only a few weeks ago, Liverpool’s hopes of qualification to European football seemed like in their hands. Now, the team will have to depend on results from other teams, especially considering that Arsenal also have a couple of games in hand. Liverpool are up against Watford, Southampton, West Ham, and Middlesbrough in the final four matches.

"I think Liverpool are in a big fight now - Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal are all in there. Before today I fancied Man City and Liverpool to make those top-four spots their own but Man Utd will have had a massive lift today and then seen Liverpool's result; Arsenal, too, after reaching the final [of the FA Cup].Those two will now have massive belief they can make the top four. I think it's 50-50 now for Liverpool," said Jamie Carragher.
