Jamie Carragher was extremely pleased with the way Leicester played
Jamie Carragher was extremely pleased with the way Leicester played in the recent 2-1 loss against Arsenal.
This was a huge setback for the table leaders, but they remain in charge of the Premier League with a two-point advantage over Tottenham. Leicester were least expected to be in this position, but they have been seen as real title contenders in recent weeks. The position has especially improved after they beat Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad stadium, which is a formidable fortress for Manuel Pellegrini’s team. However, they were unable to achieve another away victory over one of their title rivals after losing to Arsenal.
The game was extremely close throughout the 90 minutes in the two teams were separated only through a late goal from Danny Welbeck, who had come on as a substitute. Despite this defeat, Carragher says that the table leaders displayed some amazing qualities that are only seen in potential champions. Despite having never won the Premier league himself, Carragher has seen several of his friends lift the title. Leicester will be feeling the pressure in the final few weeks of the season and it remains to be seen if they can hold their nerve unlike Norwich, who lost the title in similar circumstances almost 2 decades ago to Manchester United.
"Forget the last-minute goal, Leicester played like champions there, I felt. They've come to the Emirates, deservedly gone 1-0 in front, then down to 10 men. How long was it before Arsenal had a shot on target? The way they threw their bodies in front of everything, the way they defended. They did perform like champions and they've been very unfortunate there," said Carragher.“The ending was just like a great movie. Arsenal didn't do enough to win the game at the end of the day, I thought,” said Thierry Henry.
