CARRAGHER MAKES LIVERPOOL TRANSFER DEMAND
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has made a transfer demand of his former club to celebrate his birthday. Jamie Carragherturned 43 earlier this week and he cheekily asked Liverpool to give him a birthday present with a win over North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur after Liverpool celebrated him on their Twitter account and the Reds obliged him with a win that ended their recent barren run in the Premier League.
Ahead of the Spurs game, Liverpool had gone five matches without a single victory and the run helped to derail their charge to win the Premier League title for the second season in a row. The barren run of five winless games saw Liverpool drop from top spot to fourth position on the league table.
Liverpool had dropped to fifth spot on the league table before the Spurs clash but they were able to get a win as demanded by Jamie Carragher to move back to fourth spot and within four points of title rivals Manchester City at the summit.
Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane scored one goal and added two assists as the Reds beat Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham Hotspur team 3-1 at their backyard. Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexandre-Arnold were the other goalscorers for the visitors, while Tottenham Hotspur got their lone goal through Danish international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. After the game, Jamie Carragher made another birthday request as he called on the club to sign another centre back to cover for the lack of defensive options in the team. Liverpool lost Joel Matip to injury during the Spurs game. Joel Matip was the only fit senior central defender ahead of the game and his injury has left the Reds without a recognisedcentre back. Young and untested centre backsNathaniel Philip and Rhys Williams are now the only fit options for the Reds. Liverpool manager JurgenKloppspoke to reporters in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to London to face West Ham United and he talked about his desire to sign a centre back before the transfer window ends in the coming days. Klopphas had to employ the services of midfielders Fabinho and skipper Jordan Henderson in defence. Brazilian international Fabinho missed the Spurs game as a result of injury.
