Carragher Revealed Wigan Were Interested in Signing Him

Jamie Carragher is regarded as one of the legends at Liverpool after having spent the entirety of his career at Anfield. However, he has now revealed that Wigan Athletic came close to signing him as a veteran. Roberto Martinez was interested in signing Carragher when he was the manager of Wigan.

The 41-year-old, who is now a pundit with Sky Sports, claims that his agent never mentioned about interest from any clubs. As a result, the interest from Wigan went away without any knowledge. Carragher revealed that Martinez was thinking about using him in a 3-4-3 formation that became so successful for the Spaniard at Wigan.

Carragher was also playing under one of the legends – Kenny Dalglish – at Liverpool. Hence, there is a good chance that he may not have taken to this interest. Interestingly, Carragher may have been a Liverpool legend but his son is part of the Wigan Athletic academy after having joined at the age of 14. Carragher may have enjoyed an exemplary career as a defender that he has been loved by many more as a pundit due to his views. He has been able to establish a huge fan following for the Monday night football with arch rival Gary Neville, who made his career at Manchester United.

Roberto Martinez, when I worked with him on TV, actually told me he tried to take me at the very end of my career to be part of a back three that he used when he used to play 3-4-3 for Wigan.I think I was out of the team under Kenny (Dalglish) towards the end of my time.I got no wind of that really so no – I haven’t got any juicy stories. My name was never in the paper linked with anyone,” said Carragher about the interest from Wigan.
