Carragher Says City Would Need New Recruits to Compete For Title
Manchester City will need to bring good players in the summer transfer window if they want to keep up with Liverpool in the race to win the title in next season says, Jamie Carragher. Liverpool was crowned champions ending their thirty years wait with City’s loss to Chelsea. They were given the guard of honour when the Reds came to play against City in Etihad Stadium last week.
The former Liverpool footballer said that when City is at their best they are completely unstoppable.
Carragher added that City will be spending much more in the market than Liverpool. If they could really sign good players, then the bridge between Reds can be easily mended. He said that the main reason for City’s downfall this summer was due totheir lack of strength in the defence. They have conceded 33 goals in this season whereas Klopp's team has only conceded 21 goals.
“But I don't think there's too much between the teams. We've seen it this season, but I don't expect to see it next season because I think City are too good a team and Guardiola is too good a manager to have a gap like that between one of his teams and someone else's,” said Carragher.
City’s centre back Aymeric Laporte suffered an injury at the beginning of this season which lessened the hopes for the title. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi hadbeen out of their form which stands as a concern for Pep Guardiola. The manager should be focusing on finding a replacement for the former city defender and captain Vincent Kompany.
