Jamie Carragher says Manchester United have a better squad than Liverpool
Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United have a better squad than title-chasing Liverpool, given the variation in squad depth between the sides. The Reds have been hampered with key injuries in the defensive department and this has recently affected their league form with successive draws.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher reiterated that United may have a better squad at their disposal than Liverpool at the current point of time. He added that Jurgen Klopp made a big mistake by loaning out Nathaniel Clyne, given the club are now having to adjust with James Milner in a makeshift role following injuries to Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
He said: “I said yesterday Manchester United have a better squad than Liverpool. People may have thought it was a strange thing to say but I think we’re seeing little signs of it. On the right back situation, Klopp’s made a mistake letting Clyne go. I know there were a couple of injuries but you don’t need to let him go — keep him there. Keita, who he paid big money for, looked quiet and keeps losing the ball. Firmino doesn’t look himself. Salah we didn’t see anything from tonight.”
“Just a few weeks ago, the Reds had the opportunity to go eight points ahead of Manchester City“ at the top of the table but they squandered the chance after only managing a 1-1 draw against Leicester City. From there, the Reds have played out another stalemate against West Ham United with the same scoreline, although they should have lost the game, had “the assistant referee spotted“ the offside in the lead-up to their goal at the London Stadium.
At the moment, Klopp’s team are second on the standings behind Manchester City on goal difference, although the latter have played the additional game against Everton to compensate for gameweek 27 where they have a League Cup final scheduled. Still, Liverpool need to return to winning ways and they can do so when they entertain Bournemouth at Anfield this weekend.
