Jamie Carragher explains how Liverpool can win the Premier League title
Liverpool legend-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher believes his former club have a chance of lifting the Premier League crown, should Manchester City be distracted by their Champions League duties in the second half of the season. The Reds have made a strong start to the current campaign with 30 points already on the board but they are still a couple of points behind the Citizens, who are leading the standings.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Carragher suggested that the Citizens are still favourites for the Premier League crown and the Reds have only a slender chance in a straight dogfight. However, the former England international suggests that the momentum could shift the Reds’ favour, should the Citizens progress into the final stages of the Champions League and get distracted by the same.
He said:“I think Liverpool’s hope of winning the league is in the second half of the season if City go far in the Champions League, and hope that their focus is on that, taking their eye off the ball slightly. That’s the only chance Liverpool have got, because City are better than them. But I think for the supporters and everyone around the club, Jurgen Klopp speaks very well and so do the players about the situation – Liverpool have made a brilliant start.”
City were widely fancied to compete for the Champions League title last term but their
“challenge ended in the quarter-final stage after being comfortably beaten by the Reds across both legs.“ Despite this, they remain among the prime contenders for the European crown once more and Guardiola “may fancy taking advantage “of the average form exhibited from the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich this campaign.
Liverpool make the trip to Watford for their next league game after the international break. On the other hand, Manchester City travelto the English capital where they are scheduled to face West Ham United, who are managed by their former head coach Manuel Pellegrini.
