CARRAGHER IN AWE OF TRENT
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been blown away by the quality shown by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the colours of the Reds in recent months. Jamie Carragher was full of praise for the Liverpool right-back for his performance in the recent win at the home of arch rivals Manchester United.
The England international right-back produced a man-of-the-match performance as he helped Liverpool beat hosts Manchester United at Old Trafford for the first time in seven years to boost their Champions League bid. Jamie Carragher praised Trent via his official Twitter handle immediately after the league encounter played on Thursday night.
Trent made the assist for one of the two goals scored by Brazilian international Roberto Firmino as Liverpool beat the Red Devils 4-2 on Thursday night to close the gap on the top four places. Only a place in the top four will guarantee Champions League football via the league.
Manchester United took the lead through Bruno Fernandes on ten minutes but Liverpool were able to bounce back from that setback to score three goals either side of the interval. Diogo Jota scored the equaliser for the Reds on 34 minutes before Firmino added a second goal just before the end of the first half off the assist from Trent. Firmino made it 3-1 to Liverpool with his brace at the start of the second half.
England national team player Marcus Rashford scored a second goal for Manchester United to set up a nervy final quarter of the game for Trent and his teammates but those fears were allayed with the fourth and clinching goal from Mohamed Salah on the stroke of full-time.
Trent was also responsible for the assist for the winning goal scored by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the 2-1 comeback win over hosts and already-relegated West Brom. The wins over Manchester United and West Brom ensured that the Reds have moved to within one point of fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of the final two games of the season.
Despite his impressive form, England manager Gareth Southgate could drop Trent from his team for the European Championship this summer. Jamie Carragher has previously said that the inclusion of Trent in the England squad for Euro 2020 is a no brainer.
