Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stoked the rivalry with Manchester United after he stated in his column for the Daily Telegraph that the club re-signed Cristiano Ronaldoafter they learnt of the interest from city rivals Manchester City. Liverpool and Manchester United share a big rivalry as the top two teams in English football.
On Ronaldo, Manchester United had to negotiate an initial transfer fee of £12.9m with Italian Serie A club Juventus plus £7.9m in add-ons to seal his return to Old Trafford. He has been away from the club for 12 years playing for the likes of Real Madrid and the Old Lady. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner signed for the Old Lady from Real Madrid in 2018 on the back of a nine-year career in Madrid.
Ronaldo opted to sign for Manchester United again this summer ahead of Manchester City despite the fact that he was close to signing for the Citizens. He would have joined the Premier League champions if not for the timely intervention from Manchester United. He has been a regular source of goals for the Red Devils since he returned to the club. The Portugal national team skipper has four goals in all competitions over the course of 270 minutes (three games). In Premier League terms, he has three goals in two matches ahead of the home clash with Aston Villa. Ronaldo and his Manchester United teammates take on Villa at home in one of the first two games as far as the next set of Premier League matches is concerned. The mammoth clash between hosts Chelsea and Manchester City takes place alongside the aforementioned United game.
