BLUES TARGET GRAHAM POTTER WARNED OFF TAKING JOB AS CARRAGHER MAKES PICK

Jamie Carragher doesn't believe Graham Potter will be the "right fit" for Chelsea and would rather see Mauricio Pochettino take the Stamford Bridge job. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly made the shock decision to sack Thomas Tuchel earlier on Wednesday with Potter quickly emerging as his preferred replacement.

Talks are already taking place and Boehly is supposedly willing to pay the £16million compensation fee in Potter's contract at Brighton. Pochettino's name has also been mentioned, but he has travelled to Atletico Madrid this evening for their Champions League match against Porto. It's been suggested that an announcement on Potter's appointment at Chelsea could be made this evening if talks go to plan. But Carragher has given a word of warning to the Brighton boss, who has earned high praise for the work he's done on the south coast.

The Liverpool icon suggests Potter should take his time in considering the Chelsea job and believes Pochettino would be a much better choice for the west London club. He told Sky Sports that Chelsea are a very ruthless club and he's not sure Potter is the right fit. According to Carragher, Chelsea are saying they want to do things differently in the future in terms of having a coach in charge rather than a manager, or that they do things behind the scenes differently. He also said if he was Potter, I would find that very hard to believe. They've just got rid of a manager six games into the season.
"Of course, it's a huge step up in his managerial career and Chelsea are still one of the top clubs. They are still world champions right now, but you fear for Potter that he'll be in the same boat as every other Chelsea manager has for the last 10 years.
