LIVERPOOL FRUSTRATED ON TRANSFERS
Liverpool are reportedly frustrated by the slow transfer process that has delayed them from landing their major transfer targets this summer. The deal for centre half Virgil van Dijk should have been long completed but it was poorly handled so the interest cooled. There have been reports that the player strongly wants Anfield so the move could still happen but it remains complicated for now.
The chase of Naby Keita is a similarly long drawn battle. The player is sometimes reported to be joining the Premier League side then there are reports that he is sticking with RB Leipzig. Then there have recently been reports that Manchester United is joining the fray. Reports say United could pull another stealth move like they did for Romelu Lukaku bound to Chelsea.
Leipzig insists that the top rated dynamic midfielder is not for sale but Jurgen Klopp continues to push for a likely deal. For now, like Klopp said, everything is open until August 31, though with the owner of RB Leipzig having categorically stated that Keita will be staying (and that no amount of money could change his mind) it looks like he'll be staying away from Anfield for the foreseeable future.
It's a shame because Keita could be the missing piece in Klopp's puzzle - you can view all English Premier League betting at William Hill but Liverpool fans will be disappointed to see that they are the 4th favourites for the title at the time of writing, whereas having players of Van Dijk's and Keita's quality would surely improve their chances.
With those deals stalling, the Reds are set to quickly finish off the deal for left back Andrew Robertson from Hull City. The player reportedly left the pre-season training in Portugal ahead of the £8 million move. Hull are also hoping to get Reds youngster Ryan Kent in a return deal, so the Reds will get a first team player in return for someone who has yet to feature in their famous Red shirt (in the first team at least)
Aside all of the previously linked players, Liverpool have now been linked to Paris St Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe. The 21-year old was a regular last term, playing 28 games in all competitions. Everton are leading the chase for him but the latest press speculation suggests that their Merseyside rival wants to join in - partly because their bids for other players have been rebuffed.
For now, Klopp is just happy with the signings he has made, like Mohammed Salah. Klopp said the left footedness of the Egyptian makes him “valuable” as there are not many of such at Anfield.
It will be an interesting close season, with Manchester United and Manchester City already having brought in top quality reinforcements, and Arsenal and Chelsea linked with some fantastic names of World Football.
