Solskjaer provides fresh update on Paul Pogba’s future

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has clarified that he has no doubts regarding the future of Paul Pogba. The midfielder has spent most of the current season on the sidelines with an ankle injury but he is expected to return to first-team action in the coming weeks following a successful operation on the nagging problem.

Still, there continue to remain the speculation regarding his future with the club but Solskjaer has assured that the Frenchman will stay put with the Red Devils next season, he told: “Paul's our player. He has two years left on his contract. A year plus the option of another. You can expect Paul to be here [next season], yeah.”

Pogba’s current deal with the Mancunian giants expires at the end of next season but the club can extend his stay for another 12 months with a clause present on his contract. As such, United don’t find themselves in the desperation to sanction his sale during the summer and reports have claimed that the midfielder could be open to penning a new contract.

Pogba has been in a contract standoff over the past year amid concerns over the club’s lack of progress but reports indicate that he could make a U-turn after watching the recent run of results under Solskjaer. United have gone 11 matches unbeaten in all competitions and during this period, winter signings Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo have both made strong impressions.

Fernandes has contributed three goals and four assists across all competitions. In addition to that, he has contributed a number of key passes leading to the other goals. Meanwhile, Ighalo has been largely used in the Cup competitions but he has made a genuine impact with four goals and an assist from just three starts. Solskjaer has recently hinted that Ighalo could be handed with a permanent contract when his loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua concludes in June.
