Carragher does not rate Arsenal’s chances of making the top four

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher does not believe Arsenal can qualify for next season’s Champions League despite the recent improvement in league form. The Gunners have remained unbeaten in all competitions since the turn of the year and they recently returned to winning ways against Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.

Carragher Delighted with United’s Offensive Game against City

Jamie Carragher claimed that Manchester United’s impressive win over Manchester City witnessed one of the best performances from the front three up until now. Daniel James, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford were able to destroy City’s title hopes with a 2-1 victory. Rashford and Martial were able to score in the first 30 minutes of the game to put a huge advantage for the Red Devils at the Etihad Stadium. Even though City threatened with a late leveller thanks to a goal from Nicholas Otamendi, City were beaten by a much better outfit.

United have had a mixed run when it comes to offensive football this season. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been at the end of criticism with many suggesting that he could even be replaced by Mauricio Pochettino, who is suddenly available after leaving Tottenham only a few weeks ago. The initial period underSolskjaer was excellent, but United have not been consistent since the start of the season. The team has also been unable to attract a lot of new signings, while existing star players are threatening to leave. In such an instance, United need a lot of positivity that can ensure the club recovers from the downturn. This positivity can come in the form of goals, but it has so far not been the case.

Carragher Revealed Wigan Were Interested in Signing Him

Jamie Carragher is regarded as one of the legends at Liverpool after having spent the entirety of his career at Anfield. However, he has now revealed that Wigan Athletic came close to signing him as a veteran. Roberto Martinez was interested in signing Carragher when he was the manager of Wigan.

The 41-year-old, who is now a pundit with Sky Sports, claims that his agent never mentioned about interest from any clubs. As a result, the interest from Wigan went away without any knowledge. Carragher revealed that Martinez was thinking about using him in a 3-4-3 formation that became so successful for the Spaniard at Wigan.

Jamie Carragher looking forward to Naby Keita shining for Liverpool

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said that the Reds have one of the best midfields in Europe but there is still room for improvement. The Merseyside outfit ended the previous season on a high by beating Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League crown and that ended a seven-year wait for a trophy.

They have carried on the form this season with a strong display in the Premier League and there has been much appreciation for the midfield, where the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho have impressed. Speaking on TalkSPORT drive, Carragher said that there are no question marks regarding the team selection at the moment, given the Reds have won 17 league games on the bounce.

Jurgen Klopp dismisses talk of a rift between Sadio Mane and Salah

Liverpool
boss Jurgen Klopp has indicated that there is no rift between Sadio Mane and
Mohamed Salah. Mane was understandably furious after he failed to receive the
ball from Salah in a goalscoring position against Burnley and the frustration
was quite evident even after his substitution at the closing stages of the
game.

Speaking
exclusively to TalkSPORT, Klopp said that Mane and Salah have forgotten the
incident and everything is fine between them, he told: “There’s nothing left.
It’s something we left immediately after the game. There was a little talk. It
was Monday when we met first after our international break and everything was
fine. Training was brilliant, the boys are fine with each other, they like each
other! That’s how it is and that’s how it was before. Football is high emotions
and the only problem that we have is that all of our emotions are shown in
public – and I like that.”

Jamie Carragher lauds Arsenal’s summer transfer business

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has lauded Arsenal’s business during the summer transfer window and believes the north London side can have a genuine crack at the top four this season. The Capital outfit suffered a disappointing end to the previous campaign as they finished one point behind the Champions League places while suffering an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Thereafter, they were fears that the Gunners may not strengthen the squad sufficiently with just a £40m budget on the table but the club have certainly surprised many with as many as six purchases including the club-record £72m arrival of Nicolas Pepe from Lille. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said that the Gunners will certainly not compete for the league title this term but they have the credentials to make another strong push for the top four positions.

Carragher hoping Liverpool sign some players before the transfer deadline

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said that he is hopeful the Reds can pursue a quality signing before the transfer window closes next week. The European champions have secured the services of teenage duo Sepp van den Burg and Harvey Elliot this summer but neither of them are expected to feature predominantly with the first-team next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Carragher acknowledged that the club are short in the left-back department with the departure of Alberto Moreno while they may require another creative midfielder in their ranks, he said: “I’d like them to bring someone in. I still think we’re a little bit short at left-back. [Alberto] Moreno’s gone. I still think a creative midfield player [is needed but] the front three is a difficult one for managers and clubs when you’ve got such a set front three.”

Jurgen Klopp confirms calf injury for Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Xherdan Shaqiri is likely to be out for the next few weeks through a calf problem. The Switzerland international sustained the damage during the Nations League third-place play-off against England last month and it appears that he has not completely recovered from the setback.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Klopp acknowledged that Shaqiri is still in the treatment room as a result of the calf tear and he could be out for a while, he said: “Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again. He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while.”
